Maine’s Iconic Climbs

Embark on a two-day adventure at Katahdin, tackling classic climbs like Hanta Yo, the Nose, and Flatiron, with Chimney Pond camping for an immersive alpine climbing experience.

  • A popular route ascending the central buttress in the South Basin, offering airy 3rd–4th class climbing leading to a striking crack and the famed Knife Edge.

  • III, 5.9 Sharing the Armadillo approach, this route ventures up Flatiron Buttress, featuring 165' of the best crack climbing on an alpine peak.

  • II, 5.6 An excellent introductory alpine route, connecting Chimney Pond to the Knife Edge through a mildly technical 2000' couloir.

  • oIII, 5.5-5.8 A long and varied ridge line with outstanding exposure, providing a great introduction to alpine climbing, leading to the summit of Pamola Peak.

  • 5.7-8 A parallel climb to Pamola Four on a completely different buttress.
