When the Unexpected Happens: Equinox Guides Assist in a Climber Rescue at Barrett’s Cove

Climbing outdoors is always an adventure, and with that adventure comes a degree of risk. At Equinox Guiding Service, part of our mission is not only to provide memorable climbing experiences but also to be prepared when the unexpected occurs.

On June 21, 2025, our team assisted in a rescue at the climbing area in Barrett’s Cove, Camden. A climber sustained an ankle injury, and Coastal Mountain Search and Rescue (CMSAR), Camden Fire Department, and Knox County Emergency Management responded to the call.

Several of our guides were on site and able to assist with the response. Drawing from our AMGA‑based training and years of professional guiding experience, we worked alongside first responders to ensure the injured climber received the help they needed.

Why This Matters

This incident is a reminder of why training and risk management are central to what we do:

  • Preparedness: Our guides train regularly for emergency scenarios, ensuring we can step in when needed.

  • Community Partnership: We’re proud to support CMSAR and local responders when incidents occur on our cliffs.

  • Professional Standards: As an AMGA‑accredited service, our team follows national best practices not only for guiding but also for safety and emergency response.

Moving Forward

Thankfully, the climber was conscious and stable, and the collaboration between responders and guides helped bring the situation to a safe outcome.

We share this story not to dramatize the incident but to reaffirm our commitment to both our clients and the broader outdoor community. When you climb with Equinox Guiding Service, you are with a team that understands both the joy and the responsibility of being in the mountains.
