Climbing with Purpose: The Story Behind Equinox Guiding Service

Every business has a story. Ours begins on the granite cliffs of Camden, the quiet trails of the Midcoast, and the belief that meaningful adventure should be both accessible and deeply rooted in place.

Where It All Started

Equinox Guiding Service was founded in 2016 by local climber and guide Noah Kleiner and John Sidik. Born and raised in Union, Maine, Noah spent years working and climbing across the country—from western canyons to alpine ridgelines—before returning home with a vision: to create a guiding service that reflected the best of Maine.

Starting with just a rope, a rack, and a deep respect for the mountains, Noah began guiding in Camden Hills and Acadia, offering beginner climbs and sharing his love for the landscape he grew up in.

What began as a solo operation has grown into an AMGA-accredited guide service offering rock and ice climbing experiences across Midcoast, Acadia, and western Maine—from intro sessions to remote, alpine-style climbs on Tumbledown and beyond.

Why We Do It

We believe that climbing is about more than summits and pitches. It’s about presence, connection, and personal growth. It’s about slowing down, building trust with your partner, moving through terrain with intention, and learning something every time your feet leave the ground.

That’s why we focus not only on adventure—but on education, risk management, and fostering a deep relationship with the places we climb. Our trips are led by certified AMGA instructors who bring professionalism, compassion, and humility to every client interaction.

Climbing in Maine, the Equinox Way

Maine’s climbing is diverse, raw, and often underrated. From sea cliffs to mountain faces, it offers something for everyone—and we feel proud to help people experience it with care, skill, and reverence.

As we continue to grow, our mission stays the same:

  • To guide with integrity

  • To teach with patience

  • To share the beauty of Maine’s wild places, one climb at a time

If you’re new to climbing or looking to take your skills further, we’re here. Whether you’re tying in for your first climb or tackling a multi-pitch route, Equinox Guiding Service is ready to help you climb with purpose.
