Job Summary:

Equinox Guiding Service is seeking a motivated and experienced Seasonal Climbing Guide to join our team. As a Climbing Guide, you will play a crucial role in leading and ensuring the safety of our clients during rock climbing adventures. You must possess a current SPI (Single Pitch Instructor) certification, WFA (Wilderness First Aid) certification, and have substantial climbing experience. This seasonal position offers a unique opportunity to work in the great outdoors and share your passion for climbing with others.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Lead Climbing Adventures: Plan and execute safe and enjoyable climbing trips for individuals and groups, including rock climbing and bouldering outings.

  2. Safety and Risk Management: Prioritize the safety of clients by conducting thorough risk assessments, providing safety briefings, and ensuring proper equipment usage.

  3. Instruction and Education: Offer guidance, tips, and coaching to climbers of varying skill levels, fostering their growth and development.

  4. Equipment Maintenance: Maintain climbing gear and equipment, ensuring they are in excellent working condition and adhering to industry safety standards.

  5. Emergency Response: Be prepared to handle emergencies by applying Wilderness First Aid skills, coordinating evacuations if necessary, and communicating effectively with emergency services.

  6. Client Engagement: Foster a positive and enjoyable atmosphere for clients, providing exceptional customer service, and creating memorable experiences.

  7. Environmental Stewardship: Promote responsible outdoor ethics, Leave No Trace principles, and conservation efforts among clients and fellow guides.

  8. Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of climbing excursions, incident reports, and client waivers.

  9. Continued Learning: Stay updated on industry best practices, safety protocols, and climbing techniques.

Qualifications:

  • SPI Certification: Current Single Pitch Instructor certification from a recognized organization (e.g., AMGA).

  • WFA Certification: Wilderness First Aid certification, including CPR, is mandatory.

  • Climbing Experience: Demonstrated experience in various climbing disciplines, with a strong foundation in rock climbing.

  • Physical Fitness: Ability to maintain physical fitness required for guiding and assisting clients in challenging terrain.

  • Communication Skills: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to interact effectively with clients and team members.

  • Problem-Solving: Quick decision-making and problem-solving abilities, especially in emergency situations.

  • Team Player: Willingness to work closely with other guides and staff to create a cohesive and supportive team environment.

  • Passion for Climbing: A genuine passion for climbing and the outdoors, with a desire to share that passion with others.

Working Conditions:

  • Seasonal position, with work primarily during peak climbing seasons.

  • Outdoor work in various weather conditions, often in rugged terrain.

Noah Kleiner started climbing in 2006. He fell in love with climbing and went on to become a licensed Maine Guide and Single Pitch Instructor as well as an Aspirant Moutain guide. Noah has been working for three summer seasons as a guide for Atlantic Climbing School. He is a passionate traditional climber and fortunate enough to have had climbing adventures across the country.
