From Steep ice to mellow learn to climb cliffs its really got it all. The fun of the place is finding the ice. It’s scattered throughout the Vally on many a remote cliff band that has more character than most climbing in new England. It also carries that charm of old ice routs where you have to know someone who knows someone who recommends a place.

Grafton definitely has the charm and charisma of old Maine climbs.

The amphitheater in Grafton has some of the most consistent ice in Maine. It holds ice deep into May and frequently holds some of the biggest formations in Grafton. I frequently end at this place since it holds some of my clients' steeper formations. It has some of the more esthetically pleasing steep ice that can consistently blow a client’s mind away. I Love taking clients here because it has other climbers, and being able to observe other climbers climbing is one of the key learning opportunities. It demonstrates technique, whether that is good or bad it does not really matter the fact that they are observing someone else climbing can bring a novice into an expert roll very quickly.
