Kalymnos 2023

Kalymnos 2023
April!

Equinox Guiding Service is excited to announce that we will be leading a group of climbers to the famed island of Kalymnos in Greece in November of 2023! With over 3,500 sport climbs on the island with stunning vistas, this is truly a climbers paradise.

Kalymnos Rock climbing

About the island itself and a dash of rock climbing info:

Pronounced KA-lym-nos, the island is located in the Dodecanese island chain, just off the coast of southwest Turkey. The island of Kalymnos is just over 50 square miles, but a majority is limestone mountains with cliffs jutting out everywhere you look. The majority of people live along the water’s edge, using the bounty of the sea to make a living; sponge diving is a popular and traditional island industry. Due to the quality of rock, dependability of the weather, and the hard work of many, Kalymnos has become a powerhouse for sport climbing. Known worldwide as a popular European destination for climbers, we are excited to bring a group with us to show off the island!

Our guide, Noah, will lead a small group of climbers daily to a variety of climbs on every corner of the island. Offering you a bit of everything as we experience the beauty and splendor of Kalymnos!

Kalymnos adventure

We encourage climbers of all experience levels to join us!

General Itinerary:
Day 1: Arrival from Athens
Day 2: Climbing
Day 3: Climbing
Day 4: Free day
Day 5: Climb on the smaller island of Telendos Day 6: Departure

Upon arrival on the island of Kalymnos, Noah will greet you at the airport and take you directly to our ocean front home for the week. Get settled in with a few Greek snacks while we go over the upcoming adventures.

We begin each day with a delicious Greek style breakfast; feta, tomatoes, and cucumber, in addition to the classics of course. Noah will give an overview of the day's crags, while the provided lunches are packed into your bag. If that day’s adventure is within walking distance, Noah will lead us right out the door of the house to the rocks, otherwise transportation will be provided.

Athens Greece

After spending the day soaking up the sun, enjoying the vistas, and climbing as much as you can, we will make our way back to the house where dinner will be waiting! Hang out in the cool evening air watching the sun slip beyond the horizon while the local goats make their evening commute home.

On Wednesday, our rest day, you will have the opportunity to discover the history and rich culture of the island. With transportation provided to the town of Kalymnos, the whole island is your oyster. Visit monasteries with breathtaking views, Ottoman castles on hilltops, or spend the day in the sun or beneath the waves on one of the many beaches. Noah will be at your disposal to make recommendations and help make arrangements.

Saturday night, we will sample the local fare at one of the many taverna’s along the beach to celebrate the many memories made. Sunday we will bid you adieu, making sure you’ve had a hearty breakfast and are on time for your flight back to Athens.
